Flat Rock Playhouse is one of America's top 10 summer stock theaters and its Vagabond Players have performed to sell-out crowds for over 50 years. 2013 marks the 61st year Flat Rock Playhouse/The Vagabond School of the Drama, Inc. (FRP) has been in continuous operation. We are also proud that it has the honor of being The State Theatre of North Carolina.
The Biltmore Estate is George Vanderbilt's 255-room French chateau on 12,000 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. Built in 1895, it contains collections of antiques and fine art and is one of the most grand homes you are likely to ever see. You can also tour the gardens, sample Biltmore wines and tour the winery and visit Antler Hill Village for shopping and restaurants.
Brevard Music Center Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, the Brevard Music Center celebrates many years of teaching and performance. The picturesque 140-acre campus offers more than 80 orchestra, opera and chamber concerts each Summer. The artistic director is joined by 400 students, 65 faculty and an array of guest artists.
Connemara a national historic site, is the last home of the poet, historian, author and Pulitzer Prize winner, Carl Sandburg. This historic landscape consists of the Sandburg residence, a dairy goat barn complex that is home to the park's Connemara Farms goat herd, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, five miles of hiking trails on moderate to steep terrain, two small lakes, several ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an apple orchard.
Pisgah National Forest Pisgah National Forest was the first national forest established in the United States. Covering over one million acres of mountainous terrain, some over 6,000 feet above sea level, the sprawling forest is home to the famous Cold Mountain and, of course, its namesake, Mt. Pisgah, the highest mountain in the forest. The Blue Ridge Parkway meanders through sections of the forest, and numerous hiking trails cross areas all throughout the French Broad River Valley.

Blue Ridge Parkway On September 11, 1935 construction began on what was the country's first and ultimately longest rural scenic parkway. Exactly 52 years later, the 469-mile route was completed with the dedication of the Linn Cove Viaduct on Grandfather Mountain.
